Manila Water signs retail electricity supply agreement with AC Energy

Manila Water and AC Energy recently entered into a retail electricity supply agreement.

The power purchase from AC Energy provides Manila Water the most value through savings on power consumption costs. The agreement covers the two-year supply of electricity to five Manila Water facilities currently enrolled under Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA). These are the Balara Pumping Station, San Juan Pumping Station, Kingsville Pumping Station, Siruna Pumping Station, and Fort Bonifacio Pumping Station. The water company’s contestable facilities have an aggregate monthly demand of 8.5MW.

Present during the signing were Manila Water officers led by Ferdinand M. dela Cruz, President and CEO, and the AC Energy team led by Eric T. Francia, President and CEO. Also gracing the event were Ayala Corporation Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and President and COO Fernando Zobel de Ayala.

Manila Water President and CEO Ferdinand Dela Cruz said the company is pleased with the results where it procured the best offer among a host of excellent Retail Electricity Supply Providers. “Our customers will benefit from lower power cost and ensures continuous power supply to five of Manila Water’s largest facilities for the next two years. This contract will allow us to run our facilities efficiently and ultimately, serve our water and used water customers well,” adds Dela Cruz.

This agreement highlights the shared vision of both companies and takes the partnership between Manila Water and AC Energy to new heights, providing value to both company’s stakeholders.

For his part, AC Energy Retail Head Miguel de Jesus said, “By providing electricity supply to their pumping stations at a lower cost, we share in Manila Water’s drive to double its commitment to provide better service to the communities they serve.”

Since receiving its retail electricity supply license in September 2016 from the Energy Regulatory Commission, AC Energy Retail has been increasing its customer portfolio, coming closer to its goal of attaining 100MW of contestable customers by the end of 2017.
